Did you know? MdDS can be triggered by an event that doesn’t involve travel.
The name Mal de Débarquement Syndrome (origin, French) means “sickness from disembarking.” One can disembark, or exit, a vehicle such as an airplane, car, and cruise ship. MdDS onset most often follows air-, water-, or land-based travel but, in truth, onset may follow any passive motion event. Riding an escalator or elevator, sleeping on a waterbed,… even augmented and virtual reality motion. For some, onset is without a precipitating motion event at all.
In “Breakdowns & Buddha Bowls in Bali,” Andrea Smit offers an emotive expression of her experience with MdDS and reveals an unusual, but not unheard of, trigger for MdDS. Please visit her personal blog to learn what it is.
Her story is so well written, and an easy 4-minute read. She asks that you share her story, to help her raise public awareness of Mal de Débarquement Syndrome. After all, it’s MdDS Awareness Month!
